The 2010 Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse

Tonight, the night of the 2010 Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse, I grew tired early. Instead of waiting up to catch a glimpse of this not so common phenomenon, I decided I would set my alarm for 2:30am just in time to catch the Total Eclipse at approximately 2:40am EST Canada time.

Before curling up in my bed I decided to turn on my new Himalayan Salt Lamp in the shape of sphere, so as to emit a warm, balanced golden red glow throughout my bedroom, which I related to the radiance of the moon upon purchase.

At 2:30am my trusty alarm clock wakened me from my slumber. Tired and safe inside the cocoon of my duvet I knew that the coldness that lay outside of it was much worth diving into, for the beauty of the eclipse lie somewhere within it. As I made my way up the stairs from my basement bedroom I laid my eyes on the clear, crisp, starry night outside of our beautiful country home, not entirely eaten up by light pollution. The clouds had subsided, but the stars had not. I bundled up and stepped outside. What a sight the moon has always been, but tonight, with its golden red radiance emitting through what seemed like the centre of the night sky, I was robbed of my words which were replaced by a feeling of beauty and contentment. I smiled at the moon as it smiled back at me, and it was a beautiful moment indeed.

I sang a short chant to the goddesses and thanked our mother earth, for such beauty she beholds. She, or perhaps they, decided to sing their own kind of song back to me with a shooting star that shot closely by the Eclipse as I watched in utter bewilderment. A moment like this can bring tears to my eyes as I realize the simplicity of our earthly lives, and all the beautiful meaning that lies within it.

This was worth stepping out of my cocoon for. This is worth saving.
